Our first chance for rain starts tonight with drizzle, then turns into a chance for showers and thunderstorms tomorrow and tomorrow night as a wimpy front and shortwave take a dive into the state. Unfortunately, our evil atmospheric cap (inversion of hot and dry air aloft) will make it tough for any storms to form, especially in south Texas, where the odds are very close to zero. Best odds for storms will be in north Texas but a few may form in the Hill Country and along I-35 between San Antonio and Austin. There will also be storms that will form in the mountains in Mexico, but these are expected to die before reaching the Rio Grande. Any storms that do form could go severe given our afternoon temperatures in the 80’s.

Much better chances for rain start Friday through the weekend as two players impact our weather. A cut-off low will develop over Baja and spin disturbances our direction while a trough over the SW sends a front into our area on Saturday. Look for several days of decent rain odds as this system may impact us through the middle of next week. While most of the showers and thunderstorms this weekend will not be severe, there could be a few that do so. I’ll have updates as we get closer to Friday.

If any of you shot some decent images of this morning’s lunar eclipse, feel free to post them below. I’m not good at waking up at 4am, so I’ll have to wait a couple of years to shoot the next one!

48hr rainfall forecast…pretty wimpy!

Although odds are low, there is a slight chance for severe storms tomorrow afternoon.

An upper-level low will send disturbances our direction this weekend.

A weak front will move into Texas over the weekend, increasing our rain chances.

There is a marginal chance for excessive rain in the green zone from Saturday-Sunday.
