The latest NWS discussion sums up this week well…”Active weather pattern set to return with daily rain and storm chances through late week - Risk for flash flooding is greatest Tuesday through Thursday. Any residual influence of the subtropical ridging responsible for the hot and quiet weather over the weekend will be fully out of our area by Tuesday. In its place, a weather pattern more conducive to unsettled weather is expected to take shape. The atmospheric parameters and general weather pattern indicate heavy rainfall will be possible with the activity this week, and thus flash flooding is the primary concern given our recent rains. Model guidance continues to position South-Central Texas squarely in the middle of the onshore moisture plume this week.”

In the short term, another hot and humid day this afternoon and on Monday with heat indexes over 100 degrees for most areas. Rain chances return on Tuesday, but our best odds for decent rain will come on Wednesday and Thursday as an upper-level trough of low pressure moves through the state. With a NW flow in place, storms will form to our north, then move southward. While activity will settle down by Friday, there will still be a chance for scattered storms through the weekend.
