I was just about work on what I thought would be a pretty boring post with the usual, “Tiny chance for rain, but mostly hot and humid!”, before I glanced at the latest radar update and saw lots of activity in the NW hill country. Last night’s cluster of storms (an MCV) that died in that area are firing up again with afternoon heating. Most of the models did not pick this feature up, so it will be interesting to see how this plays out during the afternoon. The NWS has just issued a special “Mesoscale Precipitation Discussion” and drawn a fairly big red circled area that includes the hill country, Austin and San Antonio…details below. There is also a chance that any of these storms could become severe.
We will dive into our weekend forecast tomorrow, but things are still looking promising for an inverted trough to move into south Texas over the weekend, boosting our rain odds.
If one of these storms finds your rain gauge this afternoon, please let us know and as always, feel free to post videos.
