First of all, I'm sorry to hear the terrible news from NE San Antonio were there have been four fatalities and two missing from this morning's floods in Bexar County. We all needed the rain and floods to bring back our pond, stream and lake levels, but unfortunately flood events often come with the loss of life.
This has been a crazy day of record rainfall for some areas as deep moisture reacted with a slow moving upper-level trough that parked itself over the San Antonio area and a stationary front over central Texas. Besides rainfall totals of 6-10 inches in Bexar County (my rain gauge in Helotes reported over 10 inches), there have been other locations like Victoria and Normanna (in Bee County) that have seen over 7 inches of rain in the past 24hrs.
3pm radar shows heavy rain continuing in south Texas and one lone storm over Utopia, in the Hill Country. These storms are slowly moving south so additional flooding is possible. On Friday, we should only see scattered storms, then by Sunday, back to typical summer weather with lows in the 70’s and highs in the 90’s along with lots of humidity, especially after all of this rain!
Looking further down the weather road, several of the models are now forecasting a “tropical something” to move into south Texas in 8-10 days. That’s still far out, but certainly worth watching.
