Lorena is going poof too soon!

Just what we didn't need to see...the latest update from the NHC has Lorena going “poof” before it even reaches Baja on Saturday. This will likely mean less moisture moving into Texas than was earlier forecast. Fortunately, a dying front will still move into south Texas on Sunday, working with whatever is left of Lorena’s remnants and our typical moisture from the Gulf. Best odds for over an inch of rain will be the Hill Country, western counties and along the coast. If the NBM model verifies, then other locations should see up to a half an inch, which is much better than nothing. Rain odds will start increasing on Saturday afternoon, then reach their peak on Sunday and Monday. We will see a slight chance for rain on Tuesday, before high pressure moves back in and we move into more hot and humid weather with almost zero chances for rain through at least the 15th.

There is now a 90% chance that a depression or tropical storm will form in the Atlantic over the next 7 days. We will need to keep an eye on this system, but for now, I’m not seeing any models that are moving it into the Gulf.

Below are the latest drought graphics and our monthly rainfall totals.
