After a cold start to our day, with many of you dropping to freezing overnight, temperatures have rebounded quickly and most locations are now in the upper 60’s and 70’s as of post time. With dry air still around, our thermometer will drop quickly tonight and by midnight it will be mainly in the 40’s, so you might want to consider a decent jacket if you will be up watching fireworks! By Friday, we’ll be back into the 80’s ahead of a very wimpy front that arrives on Saturday. This front will likely only drop our temperatures 5 degrees, leaving us much above average for next week.
Since the odds for rain are right up there with the odds of a meteor striking your home this afternoon, let’s talk about how this year ended drought wise. I’ve posted today’s drought graphic below and has been the case over the past several years, all of our area is in some kind of drought. The only spots that received above average rainfall this past year were parts of the Hill Country (It all came at one time on July 4th) and our northern counties. For most of us, we saw only 50-70 percent of the annual rainfall that we should have seen, which is why the drought for us has expanded since January 1st of this year.
I’m keeping my fingers crossed that as we leave La Niña next year and move into a Neutral pattern, that all of us will see a better rain year ahead.
Once again, I want to thank all of you who have trusted and followed this page in 2025 and of course, our amazing sponsors who’s financial support allows me to post great model data for you guys to see every day. I hope all of you have a safe end to this year and a healthy and happy 2026!
