I’ve been hearing from a lot of friends today, who have been seeing videos of our flooding in Pagosa Springs, CO on the news. While the flooding has been bad, and likely to return on Monday as we get more moisture from the remnants of Raymond, it has not caused any loss of life and very little property damage so far. I’ve recorded over 4 inches of rain in the past three days, which is a lot for this part of the country, where a 1 inch rain is considered heavy. Here is some great footage of the flooding in downtown Pagosa Springs taken with a drone yesterday afternoon. https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1GkzPgwWdA/ We live in the hills about 7 miles away from downtown, so flooding has not been an issue for us. As I have mentioned over the past few posts, it’s very frustrating to see all of this rain coming into the SW, but entirely missing south Texas. In a normal October pattern, this moisture would have funneled across Mexico into Texas instead of moving NE into the western states.

I keep looking for a pattern change and eventually we will see one, but not likely for at least another week. The latest Euro model is forecasting a front with a line of storms, to move through in about a week. Not only would we see some rain, but lows are forecast to drop into the 50’s. Unfortunately, the latest GFS and NBM models do not think a front will come in that soon…they see no chance for rain until around the 24th. I am noticing that for the second day in a row, the CPC 6-10 day outlook has our area in better than 50-50 odds for above average rainfall…we shall see!
