I just saw this statement in the latest forecast discussion from the NWS and I thought I’d share it with you guys…”Long range guidance from the CFS does indicate a bit of a quick switch to a more active pattern as El Nino takes shape this Fall in the month of September, but we will have to wait and see how things evolve over the next 2 weeks.” I have included the 30 month CFS model run and it does look promising. We shall see if indeed a pattern change is on the horizon!
Meanwhile, we have two tropical waves we are watching in the Atlantic (92 and 94) and they both have a 50% chance of becoming depressions in the next 7 days. Since the NHC only tracks storms when they reach depression status, I am including the latest spaghetti models for each below along with what the NHC is saying about them.
The latest drought update is in the graphics and how we are doing compared with 30 days ago. No surprise that conditions are worsening.

1. Central Tropical Atlantic (AL92):
Showers and thunderstorms have become less organized in association
with a tropical wave located about 1000 miles east of the Lesser
Antilles. In addition, recent satellite-derived wind data indicate
that the system does not have a closed circulation. This system is
expected to move into a region of strong upper-level winds and dry
air, and the development chances appear to be decreasing. Interests
in the Lesser Antilles should monitor the progress of this system as
gusty winds and areas of heavy rain are possible Friday night and
Saturday, regardless of development.

2. Eastern Tropical Atlantic (AL94):
A tropical wave located several hundred miles southwest of the Cabo
Verde Islands is producing disorganized showers and thunderstorms.
Environmental conditions are forecast to be generally conducive for
gradual development, and a tropical depression could form late this
week or this weekend while the wave moves westward or
west-northwestward across the eastern and central tropical Atlantic.
* Formation chance through 48 hours...low...30 percent.
* Formation chance through 7 days...medium...50 percent.
