The NWS sums it up well! “An active weather pattern is expected over the next week as nearly continuous southwesterly mid-level flow sets up over the southern and western USA. Ample moisture ahead of an upper-level low over the West Coast will result in a series of shortwave disturbances moving through the flow this weekend.”

Severe storms are possible starting tomorrow (NW counties) as the first disturbance moves through during the evening and during the night. The main threat will be on Sunday as a disturbance moves through in the afternoon and we should see a line of thunderstorms moving across the Rio Grande by sunset. The Storm Prediction Center just extended the yellow zone into our SW counties as far as Laredo and as far east as San Antonio. Make sure you keep your emergency apps and NOAA radio turned on to receive local warnings. Hail and high wind will be the biggest threat.
