Yet another active weather day for the coastal plains and eastern counties of south-central Texas as tropical moisture continues flowing in from the SE. We are currently wedged between troughing to our west and high pressure to our east, creating a weakness that is allowing storms to form in the afternoons. Yesterday we saw a rain lottery winner in Leon Springs record 1.09 inches of rain and another location near Beeville record 1.04 inches. These storms are short lived and will die out around sunset. We should see another active day tomorrow for the same area before high pressure finally wins out and reduces coverage to wildly scattered and only near the coast by the weekend.

Speaking of the weekend, our yearly African gift of Saharan Dust makes a big presence starting from Saturday through most of next week. Based on the latest model data, this will be a very big plume of dust that will give us lots of orange haze and make it rough for those of you like me who suffer from asthma. As many of you also know, African dust inhibits tropical development, so don’t look for any tropical systems to develop in the Caribbean or Gulf anytime soon.
