The rain hasn’t gotten the memo to go away!
It seems like every day I have mentioned that rain odds would lower to zero and every day we end up with storms on the radar during the afternoon. As I work on this post, some tropical poppers have formed along the sea breeze this afternoon and are impacting the coastal plains. A few of these cells are moving into some of our eastern counties of south-central Texas, including Karnes, Guadalupe and Bastrop. Today’s storms are being fueled by the slow moving TUTT low I mentioned yesterday, that is out in the Gulf and moving towards northern Mexico.
Just in case some of you are heading to far west Texas and New Mexico to escape the heat, there is a lot of flooding going on throughout the state of New Mexico right now, as moisture from the Pacific flows into that area. Ruidoso, NM got hit hard yesterday with flooding, partially due to the terrible fires from last year.
Rain chances for the coastal plains and southeastern counties of south-central Texas will continue through the workweek, then should wane a bit over the weekend. Rain odds will bump up again early next week as an upper-level disturbance impacts our area. The good news is that high pressure is having a hard time clamping down on us and according to the latest long-range models, we may see continued rain chances into July.
Don’t blink…tropical storm Andrea, that formed this morning in the northern Atlantic, should go poof by tomorrow!
