Two systems to keep an eye on…

Always interesting this time of the year when any type of low pressure moves into the warm Gulf, despite this being an El Nino year, when tropical storms have been almost non-existent so far. Here’s an update on 97, our first low pressure to keep an eye on: “Northern Gulf of America (AL97): A low pressure area is located over the northern Gulf of America about 125 miles south of the coast of southeastern Louisiana.
Satellite imagery and recent satellite wind data indicate that this system has become better organized since yesterday. Additional development is possible as the low moves slowly west-northwestward,
and a short-lived tropical depression or tropical storm could form before the system reaches the Upper Texas or southwestern Louisiana coasts Tuesday or Tuesday night. Interests along the Louisiana and
Upper Texas coasts should monitor the progress of this system. Regardless of development, locally heavy rainfall is possible over portions of the Upper Texas or southwestern Louisiana coasts during the next couple of days.

* Formation chance through 7 days...medium...50 percent.
Based on the latest model runs, unfortunately, this low will likely track into SE, then East Texas. The best odds for rain in our area will be the coastal plains.
Our second system to watch is what was the remnants of Dolly. While only having a 20% chance in the next 7days of becoming a tropical something, it is heading towards the Gulf and could be a player in the next 7-10 days. In fact, all of the models are increasing our rain chances and totals during that time period.
Meanwhile, mainly a hot and humid week ahead, with little chance for rain for most of us.
