I’m a little late in my post today, thanks to some raucous thunderstorms where I live in Pagosa Springs, CO. Our monsoon is finally kicking in (about a month late) and we are getting some badly needed rain (we are in a drought up here as well). Yesterday, a fire broke out along a trail, about a half mile from our home…thankfully the local and forest firefighters were able to stop the fire before it threatened our neighborhood. I have posted a photo below of the burn area...the Sheriff is investigating the source of the fire. As of post time, we have recorded almost a half an inch of rain here today and we are in a flood watch for tomorrow.
Meanwhile, back in Texas, two fronts will bring rain chances to our area over the next few days and long-range forecasts are hinting at more chances next week. Front #1 will slip into north Texas on Tuesday, then go stationary. Pre-frontal moisture will increase our odds for rain tomorrow and Wednesday, mainly in south Texas. After a lull on Thursday and Friday, front #2 will slide into Texas, giving us even better odds for rain from Friday-Monday as the front goes stationary somewhere over our area. If you are planning any Labor Day outdoor activities, you may have to dodge a few storms in the afternoon. I’ll have a better idea of rain odds as we get closer to the weekend.
Our potential tropical storm, 99L, has officially gone “poof” and as of today, there are no storms brewing in the Atlantic. As I mentioned last week, if we indeed start seeing consistent cool fronts, our likelihood of a hurricane hitting Texas will go down, as high pressure will steer the storms to our NE.

Burn area of a fire that started late yesterday about a half mile from our home in Pagosa Springs, CO. Fortunately, the weather was fairly humid for us and firefighters got it under control quickly.
