Certainly not one of my favorite combos…hot, dry and windy! A Red Flag Warning has been issued for the Hill Country, southern Edwards Plateau and Rio Grande Plains for Thursday, February 26th, from 11 AM to 7 PM. Even with no Red Flag Warning in effect today, at least one big fire in the Hill Country near Enchanted Rock, has charred over 1000 acres. Fortunately, firefighters are making some progress on this fire and it is now 70% contained.
As of post time, I’m seeing upper 80’s and 90’s across our area, with the highest temperatures of mid 90’s, mainly in the SW counties. Thursday will be even warmer, ahead of our wimpy front that arrives in the late afternoon. I would not be surprised to see some record highs recorded tomorrow.
As for rain chances, we are still watching the models to see if an upper-level low will impact our area or steer to the NE late next week. The models are still undecided but I continue to feel bullish that we are heading into better rain chances as we move into March based on the CPC outlooks, which are posted below.
