Today was supposed to be a fairly quiet day with only a slight chance for thunderstorms in the afternoon. Obviously the weather gods did not get the memo, and sent an inverted trough into Texas from the east. As I explained the past couple of days, with no high pressure above us, our weather could get very entertaining this week, especially on Thursday and Friday, when an early season front will move into south Texas, giving us an even better chance for rain. From the NWS: “Active weather with multiple chances for showers/storms expected this afternoon/evening through early next week - Potential for isolated flash flooding from slow moving storms this afternoon through at least Friday.”
At 1:30pm, radar is really lighting up in the Hill Country and coastal plains. Storms are moving slowly SW. Expect a pretty active afternoon of more storms popping up and potentially dropping 1-2 inches of rain quickly. These storms will be scattered, so there will be rain lottery winners and losers.
As far as the tropics go, wave that we discussed yesterday, has a 60% chance of forming into a storm, but the latest models are putting it on a very similar course as Erin, if it does so. There is another low just off the coast of Africa (99L), which has a 30% chance of becoming a storm in the next week, but it’s so far away from us, it’s barely worth mentioning.
Keep us posted on your backyard rainfall totals and where you are located!
