Let’s start off with the depressing drought update! With almost zero rain this month, it’s no surprise that the evil “Extreme” red zone has grown over the past week and now covers a large percentage of south-central and south Texas. The gory details are below.
In better news, the models continue to forecast a wet front next week (a rare event!), bringing a decent chance for rain for us on Tuesday-Wednesday. The models are still trying to figure out if the rain totals will be higher in the northern or southern counties, so stay tuned!
If you have any outdoor cold sensitive plants still alive, you may want to plan ahead for what could be a pretty strong freeze on Sunday morning that will likely impact all of south-central Texas and the northern counties of south Texas. The latest model runs are forecasting 20’s as far south as HWY 90 and the freeze line from Eagle Pass to Victoria. This cold air will move in late on Friday from our next cold front. Saturday will be windy (likely a red flag warning issued for fire danger) and cold, with highs only in the 40’s and 50’s!
Keeping my fingers crossed for a decent rain event next week!
