An MCS moved south this morning through our NE counties, then southward towards the coast. As the system arrived near Corpus over the past couple of hours, storms have grown to severe levels and will be impacting Kingsville, Bishop, Ricardo, and Kingsville Naval Air Station. Most of the activity will stay to the south of Corpus this afternoon, but a few scattered storms are possible from San Antonio down into the coastal plains.

High pressure moves in from the west starting tomorrow, limiting our rain to the coast and coastal plains as a few scattered sea breeze storms may form over the next week. For now, it looks mostly hot, humid and dry for most of us through the middle of the month. The latest long-range models are looking more bullish for the end of August, but unless we get a tropic system, the rain totals will be in the 1-2 inch range, which is about average for the month.

As far as the tropics go, they are heating up a bit, but the current steering flows will keep any storms away from the Gulf in the short term. The GFS thinks a storm could impact the Gulf around the 15th, but the GFS has a bad track record of predicting tropical storms over 5 days out.
