With high pressure building in and a disturbance over Louisiana that will not bring us any rain, let’s talk about the drought! As of Tuesday, the only county in our area that is currently in the infamous “Exceptional” zone is Medina County, which for the most part saw very little of the heavy rains over the past two weeks. Of course, the big winners were in the Hill Country where 14 day totals of 10-20 inches have been common.
For our area lakes, the big winners have been Buchanan and Travis, which are almost full and seeing more water adding to their totals from continued run-off. Medina Lake is still 78 feet from full, but is better off than it has been since 2023. Amistad is still 61 feet below being full, Falcon -46 feet, Choke Canyon -36 feet and Lake Corpus Christi -14 feet.
As of post time, the long-range models are trending towards equal chances for average rainfall totals, which for the end of July, are typically not very high. August will depend on whether the tropics get active…which is too far away to know for sure yet.
