First off, if you didn’t see any northern lights last night…you were not alone! I went outside several times last night and they were a no-show for most of the country. Just like weather, forecasting auroras is obviously not easy!
High pressure has decided to camp over us longer than originally forecast (how many times have we heard that?), erasing any rain chances through at least Tuesday of next week. Most of the models continue to show a disturbance and associated cool front moving through late Wednesday or Thursday of next week, which should bolster our rain odds. As of today, the best chance for rain will be along and north of HWY 90 and I-10 East. On a positive note, our weather looks more active through the rest of November, so eventually we should all see some rain by the end of the month. I know the farmers are very concerned about our rain chances and totals and I feel your pain. At this point I guess the question is, “how much rain do you need to start your crops?” I will update the latest model runs daily so that hopefully, you guys can make an educated guess. The latest CPC outlooks continue to have us in better than 50/50 odds for above normal rainfall from the 19th-27th of the month as seen in the graphics below.
No surprises on the latest drought update…with almost zero rain for the entire state since November 1st, our drought is worsening and expanding.

Originally we had a chance for rain and a front this weekend, but those odds have gone poof. Our next front and potential rainmaker will come in the middle of next week.
