Happy Mother’s Day!

Nice to see that some of you received some more bonus rain yesterday from a fairly busy afternoon of pm poppers, especially in the Hill Country and along I-35. While most totals were less than a quarter of an inch, I did see that some of you in and around Austin picked up over a half an inch. Looks like rain odds will go poof for at least 7-10 days.

Low pressure over Louisiana will shift to the east, taking our rain chances away as the Hell High (Thermal Ridge) begins to strengthen over Mexico, then drifts into Texas starting on Tuesday. Record highs are likely from Tuesday-Thursday, with even some monthly records in play. Below is what our Austin-San Antonio NWS has to say about this event:

- Potentially historic early season heat wave beginning Tuesday.

- Moderate to Major risk of heat-related impacts beginning Tuesday.

- High temperatures will likely be near all-time May record high
  temperatures Tuesday through Thursday.

An anomalous early season heat wave with highs above 100F is
becoming increasingly likely this week. There is a Moderate to Major
risk of heat-related impacts Tuesday through Saturday. High
temperatures as much as 20 degrees above average are forecast to
arrive by Tuesday. The hottest temperatures are expected to occur
between Tuesday and Thursday, but abnormal warmth and potentially
hazardous heat will likely continue through the rest of the week.
