From AI: Our planet Earth is tilted on its axis by about 23.5 degrees. As Earth orbits the Sun throughout the year, this tilt causes the Northern and Southern Hemispheres to receive varying amounts of direct sunlight, leading to the seasons. "Equinox" literally means "equal night" in Latin. On the autumnal equinox, the Earth's tilt is neither towards nor away from the Sun. This results in roughly equal amounts of daylight and darkness across most of the world. From our perspective on Earth, the Sun appears to cross the celestial equator at the moment of the equinox. If you were standing on the equator on the day of the equinox, the Sun would be directly overhead at noon.
Welcome to the first day of fall. With heat indexes over 100 degrees for most of our area, it doesn’t exactly feel fallish! Tomorrow will be even warmer with may locations seeing actual temperatures of over 100 degrees. Fortunately, we will see some relief on Wednesday as a “not so hot” front arrives during the day, giving us all a decent chance for storms and less warm temps. We may even see some 60’s for morning lows by Thursday and Friday. The models have increased our potential rainfall totals a bit for Wednesday and Thursday with even a chance for severe thunderstorms…high wind will be the main threat. As is the case around here so often, there will be pockets of heavy rain for some and not so much for others.
We have some sea breeze poppers that have actually been strong enough in Corpus to issue a flood warning this afternoon. We will see more scattered tropical poppers this afternoon and again on Tuesday along the coast and coastal plains.
Nothing heading our way in the tropics, but we could see moisture from the Pacific around the end of the month or early October as models are hinting at a disturbance moving in from the west around that time.
