Yesterday the Climate Prediction Center released their forecast for September and seasonal outlooks for this fall and winter and today we saw our weekly drought update and drought forecast. While none of the data makes you feel optimistic that our lingering drought will end anytime soon, the forecasts are only slightly leaning towards warmer than average temps and below normal precipitation. I’ve also included the latest ENSO forecast which calls for neutral conditions, followed by a weak La Nina for this winter. In all cases, you can break out your coin and toss it for making a prediction that will likely be as accurate as the forecasts we are seeing right now. While not considered very scientific, the Farmer’s Almanac forecast, is predicting a cold and wet winter for us! I have included their graphic as well!
Personally, I see slightly below normal precipitation for the fall and winter, and mainly slightly above normal temperatures….however, I also see a good chance for several arctic outbreaks and some frozen precipitation!
