Hot and Humid…

Thanks to a weak and dry upper-level low spinning around Mason, temperatures are not too bad in south-central Texas, under mostly cloudy skies. In south Texas, under mostly clear skies temperatures are in the upper 90’s and low 100’s.
Here’s what the NWS has to say about our current conditions…“A weak upper level low is producing mostly cloudy skies over much of the region this afternoon. There is not enough deep layer moisture for any showers. This feature will move away toward the north during this period. The subtropical ridge will build over the region from the east. Dry weather will continue through the short term. This will be a persistence forecast. Temperatures will be within a few degree of normal with lows in the 70s and highs mostly in the 90s.”
As discussed yesterday, a low will develop along a dying cool front on Thursday in the Gulf, then track westward. At this time, the NHC has no concern for this low and the latest models keep most of the moisture in southern Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. There will be an uptick in pm poppers on Friday and Saturday, mainly along the coastal plains and the coast.
The latest 6-10 and 8-14 day outlooks keep us hot and humid, with close to 50/50 odds for average to slightly above average rainfall during the period. July is normally a fairly dry month, then August starts getting wetter, with most areas averaging 2-3 inches for the month. Of course, much of this depends on what the tropics throw at us, and for now, they are staying very inactive.

Clouds from an upper-level low are keeping temperatures in south-central Texas in the upper 80's to low 90s.
Water vapor imagery shows where the upper-level low is located this afternoon.
2:30pm temperatures from TexMesonet.org
Forecast actual highs for Friday.
Not much is happening in the tropics.
If something were to happen in the Atlantic or Gulf, sea surface temps would certainly support a hurricane.
