Thoughts and prayers go out for the Hill Country, where rainfall totals of 20-30 inches have occurred over the past three days. I’m sure all of you have seen the hundreds of posts and news clips of roads and bridges under water. The tough part about south Texas weather is that unfortunately, these kinds of catastrophic flood events are the only way to fill up our area lakes and aquifers, especially after a multi-year drought.
From the NWS: Periods of intense rain rates and compounding effects from multiple rounds of storms is resulting in a dangerous flash flood threat that continues through Friday, particularly over the Hill Country, southern Edwards Plateau and portions of the Rio Grande Plains. Considerable to locally catastrophic impacts from flash flooding and river flooding ongoing. Moderate to major flooding ongoing/forecast for the Pedernales, Frio, Medina, Guadalupe, San Antonio, and Nueces River Basins. Heed instructions from local officials and be prepared to seek higher ground if necessary.”
A chance for rain in other locations outside of the Hill Country for the next 24hrs. This system finally works its way out of our area by this weekend, leaving us with our typical hot and humid weather as high pressure builds over Texas.
