Hard to believe it’s already June 1st! While May was an amazingly great rain month for most locations, June has the potential to be at least average according to the latest long and medium range outlooks from the CPC. Meanwhile, thanks to a Baja low, SW flow aloft, a stationary front, a lack of high pressure and lots of humidity at the surface, we will see daily PM poppers this week and weekend. As of post time, the latest thinking is that the Baja low will form late Tuesday, then slowly move ENE through the week. As it moves towards us it will send disturbances our direction, giving us increased odds for rain as we move into Thursday and Friday. While the models are still waffling with rain totals, most are predicting ½ to 2 inch totals for most locations through the weekend. The good news is that other than lightning and some brief high winds during the thunderstorms, the threat of severe storms is low this week.
