From the NWS: “Critical fire weather conditions persist through this evening. A light freeze is forecast Tuesday morning across portions of the southern Edwards Plateau, Hill Country, I-35 Corridor, and Coastal Plains. Near critical fire weather conditions for portions of the Rio Grande, southern Edwards Plateau, and Hill Country on Tuesday. A warming trend is in store for the middle of the week into the weekend with daily high records in jeopardy Friday and Saturday.”
If you thought it was windy last night, you were correct! Here is a link to the highest wind gusts recorded in south-central Texas: IEM :: PNS from NWS EWX. For south Texas, I see that Corpus and Rockport had wind gusts ranging from 57mph to 63mph!
While temperatures were chilly last night, we should be even colder tonight, especially with dewpoints in the single digits and teens! If you live in a rural valley in south central or south Texas, I would certainly cover my plants tonight! I see no more cold outbreaks for the rest of the month, so hopefully this will be our last brush with a freeze.
The hell high moves over all of the west this week, likely setting countless record highs by the end of the week for many locations anywhere from Texas westward. With the high in place, rain odds continue to be zip, zero, nada for us. The latest CPC 8-14 day outlook does give us some slight hope, giving our region better than 50/50 odds for above normal precipitation during that time period.
