We finally get rid of the mesoscale convective system that produced all of the massive flooding and now an inverted trough is moving into south Texas, spreading rain along the coast and the coastal plains. Based on the latest radar imagery it looks like southern and eastern counties of south-central Texas may also get in on the scattered tropical showers and storms this afternoon. The trough should move through by Thursday, sending us back into a more July-like weather pattern. On the plus side, I have not seen any flash flood warnings issued yet today, so hopefully this will just be welcome rain for those of you who did not get the big rains over the past week.

On a side note, there have been some social media blow-ups in regard to some cloud seeding that was done in the Hill Country on July 2nd. Cloud seeding can boost rainfall from an individual cloud on the day that it occurs, but does not linger and cause massive storms 48hrs later. Here is a link to a story on this from the AP: Weather modification did not cause the deadly flash floods in Texas | AP News

I have received a question as to whether the Saharan dust may have boosted rainfall totals? I don’t have an answer on that one, but I have not found anything mentioned from reliable sources indicating that it did as of yet.

Keep us posted on your rain totals this afternoon and continue to pray for the families, businesses and first responders suffering from the horrific floods in the Hill Country.
