While not dramatic, we did sliver a little of our deep red off the drought map over the past month. Unfortunately, a high percentage of south-central Texas remains in an exceptional and extreme drought. At this point, as we have discussed, it may take a tropical system that goes stationary over our are to unleash the amount of rain needed to end this drought. Of course, that also will mean potentially destructive flooding and loss of property and lives.
Hot and humid weather ahead through Monday, then a definite pattern change with a NW flow setting up for next week that will give us daily chances for rain and storms and drop our highs into the upper 80’s and 90’s instead of flirting with the century mark. The NW flow may also send down a cool front on Wednesday, boosting our rain odds even more. The really good news is that our chances for rain will continue beyond next week and temperatures will trend below average…not a bad thing for June!
FYI: I’m going to start posting Ensemble versions of the Euro, Canadian and GFS models for 5-7 day outlooks. The Deterministic models (one run) often show big or small rain totals for one specific area and to me are a bit misleading for 5 or more days. The ensembles are more of an average off all of the many runs, instead of honing in on one run.
