The latest model runs are hinting that our wet spell may continue through the rest of May! In the short term (today through Memorial Day), look for our stationary front to the north along with disturbances from Mexico to continue giving us decent chances for thunderstorms and showers through Memorial day. As of post time, the best odds will be Friday night through early Sunday, with lesser odds on Sunday night and Memorial day. A Flood Watch has been issued for most of our area from Friday night through Memorial Day. Rain chances get boosted again starting on Tuesday…more on that later this weekend.

Along with everything going on right now, the NHC has released its forecast for this season. “NOAA’s National Weather Service has released the 2026 Atlantic hurricane outlook. The forecast calls for 8-14 named storms (winds of 39 mph or higher), of which 3-6 are predicted to become hurricanes (winds of 74 mph or higher), including 1-3 major hurricanes (Category 3, 4, or 5). For comparison, an average season typically sees 14 named storms, seven hurricanes, and three major hurricanes.”

Rainfall totals have been really impressive for some of you, with San Patricio County, near Corpus, recording almost 13 inches of rain in the past three days!
