Drought update…

Oh boy…it’s time to depress everyone with the latest drought and rainfall update! A continued lack of any major rainfall (except for a few lucky locations in the Hill Country) so far this year has increased our areal coverage of the dreaded extreme red zone on the map. Even worse, many of these locations are where ranches and farms are located. As a side note, we are not alone in our misery, with a good percentage of the USA in some sort of drought right now. Where I live, in SW Colorado, we should have 3-5 feet of snow on the ground and as of today, we have next to zero.

Our disturbance is still forecast to move into our area from Mexico on Monday and Tuesday, giving us a “chance” for some rain, but as of post time, whatever ends up falling will not even put a dent in our dry conditions. Still hoping that a pattern change sets up the second half of February, but as most of you say, “I’ll believe it when I see it!”.
