No rain, but certainly not boring weather ahead!

Despite no rain in the forecast, our weather will be far from boring over the next few days. First we will likely break record highs today and tomorrow, then see winds gusting over 40mph on Sunday, followed by potentially freezing temperatures on Monday and Tuesday! For today and tomorrow, high temperature records could be broken for many locations as highs will likely reach or exceed 90 degrees…amazing, given our low sun angle and fewer hours of daylight in early November. On Sunday, our well advertised cold front (a glancing blow of arctic air) will arrive, along with winds gusting in the 30-50mph range, likely prompting high wind and red flag warnings. By Sunday night, winds will finally die down, leading to quickly dropping temperatures, eventually ending up in the 30’s and 40’s for most locations. If you live in south-central Texas and especially the Hill Country, I would prepare for the potential for a light freeze on Sunday and Monday morning. Temperatures start rising again under high pressure next week, and by the middle of the week, 80’s are back in the picture again.

No rain in the 7-10 day forecast, but as I have been mentioning, long-range models are looking more optimistic for rain odds for the last two weeks of the month. I have included 45day ensemble rainfall forecasts for a few cities in our area. As you look at the graphics, notice that they get more colorful from the 19th through early December. That illustrates that the models are seeing a more active weather pattern.

I’m away from my office this afternoon, but will post any record highs in the comments, later today. Let us know how warm your backyard gets today and where!

Stay cool!

Mark
